my hypebeast essentials
When Hypebeast hit me up to break down my essentials, I knew I had to keep it real — true to my form and vision. My essentials are less about trends and more about survival — tools and pieces that have shaped who I am and how I work.
I grew up in New York, where everything moves fast and you learn early to figure out who you are. Now, I’m lucky enough to bring that same energy to Los Angeles and everywhere else my art finds a home. From mattress paintings on trash day to collaborations with artists like Lady Gaga, Reebok, The Culver Studios, and directors like Colin Tilley, my work’s been popping up across the U.S. and beyond. Art Basel’s become a regular stop for me too.
Stylistically, I’ve never believed in sticking to one medium or one surface. Whether it’s airbrush, animation, murals, or fine art, I want my imagination to stay unboxed — which means my essentials have to keep up with me. They're always shifting, evolving, just like my work.
At first glance, my kit might feel a little chaotic. But if you really look, there’s a method in there — the same way I approach my pieces. You’ll never catch me without a ZEBRA brush pen, a UNI Marker, and a can of Montana spray paint. I usually have a magic trick tucked away somewhere too — something about always keeping a little wonder around. If you see me, there’s a good chance I’m wearing Carhartt — it’s durable, simple, and fits the life I live. And then there are the vintage STP stickers — a tribute to my dad and everything he taught me about creativity, resilience, and building things that matter.
Tech-wise, I keep it minimal. But I do roll with an iPad Pro when I’m working on my new animation series. It’s become a crucial tool for moving my ideas into new formats while still keeping that raw edge I’m known for.
Right now, most of my focus is on my Periscope show, The Late Night Drawing Show. It’s a wild ride — no references, no planning. Just pure creativity, live with the audience feeding me ideas in real time. It’s all about that connection — creating something raw and honest right there with whoever’s tuned in.
I’ve always been about balancing the glitz and the grime. That’s where the real magic lives.
Stay tuned — my Pen & Paper feature with Hypebeast drops later this month.
